Steps in the Sand: James' Endeavour in the Marathon des Sables
1 July 2023
We have collectively contributed to cover the £4500 entry fee for the Marathon, a reflection of our shared belief in both James and the noble causes he is supporting: Autism Guernsey, Jersey Hospice and Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief.
James Wood, Chief Executive
For those who might not be aware, the Marathon des Sables is not your average marathon. It's an ultra-marathon, extending over approximately 251km (roughly the distance of six standard marathons) through the unforgiving terrains of the Moroccan Sahara. Participants have to endure six days of relentless desert heat, trudging through soft sands and scaling daunting sand dunes. What adds to the complexity of this challenge is that each participant must be self-sufficient, carrying all their own supplies for the week, save for water, which is rationed and provided at checkpoints.
James' ultimate goal is to raise funds and awareness for Autism Guernsey, Jersey Hospice and Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief. These are three charities that have been carefully chosen by our directors, James, and members of the Redwood team, due to their close alignment with causes that we deeply care about and consider important in our community. If you would like to donate to any of these causes, you can do so at the following link: https://www.justgiving.com/team/jlgmds
Preparation for an event of this magnitude requires immense dedication and intense training. James will be committing the next year to prepare for this extreme endurance event. As he navigates his demanding training schedule, he plans to share his journey on the Redwood blog with monthly updates. For those who wish to follow James more closely, he will be posting more regular updates on his Instagram page - https://www.instagram.com/fromtidestotrails/.
We're sure that many of our clients, partners and employees will want to follow James's journey and perhaps even lend their support. To keep up to date with his training and fundraising progress, make sure to check out our blog or James's Instagram regularly.
We at the Redwood Group are enthusiastic to support James on this ambitious journey. This is a considerable endeavour and we recognise the fortitude it takes to even begin. We encourage everyone to join us in offering encouragement and support along his journey.
Good luck, James. We're with you, looking forward to sharing in your experiences and accomplishments along the way!
We are excited to share that our Operations Manager, James Le Gallez, has decided to take on one of the world's most demanding footraces, the Marathon des Sables (MdS), set to take place in April next year. Often dubbed as 'the toughest footrace on earth', this extreme challenge will be a significant test of James's determination and resilience. More importantly, it marks his strong commitment to raising funds and awareness for several meaningful & local charitable causes.
The Redwood Group, comprising Redwood Group Ltd, Redwood Group Jersey Ltd, and Redwood Co Sec Ltd, is immensely proud to back James in this venture.
